Who knew having kids could change everything? I started this blog to keep my family and friends up to date on all the adventures and mishaps of being a mom.

A moment for all the moms
As my first "official" Mother's Day comes to a close (I celebrated last year since I was 5 months pregnant), I dedicate this blog post to one of the best parts of the day for a mom. No matter how cranky, whiny, bratty, or just plain awful your child is, one look at their little sleeping body makes you forget all the rest. Here is a look at some of the quiet moments when you can't help but fall in love with your child all over again.

Can you see a difference
We had newborn pictures of Emersyn done back in October by my friend Nicole who did a fantastic job. She came back last weekend to do Emersyn's 6 month pics. We did a similar picture when at both ages. Six months, 11 pounds and 6 1/2 inches later...

Peek a Boo
One of Emersyn's favorite games to play is Peek A Boo. She loves to have anything from burp clothes, to towels, to daddy's shirt thrown over her head so that she can pull it off and we'll both clap for her and shout "There you are!" It has gotten so bad that she has taken to playing even when we don't put something on in her head. She improvises and uses her bib. Since she is always wearing one due to the plethora of drool this girl produces... it actually works out well. And you have to give the girl props for being creative and thinking outside the box to make her favorite game work when mommy and daddy are not playing along :-)
Where's Emersyn???
Wait for it.....
There she is!!!!

Sick hits our house
At midnight this morning Emersyn started crying, it sounded like her "I lost my binky and I need it now" cry so I went into her room, gave her the binky and went back to bed. Five minutes later the cry started up again, I went to give her the binky and noticed that she sounded VERY congested. I decided to use the "turkey baster" to suck out some snot so she could breath easier and then rock her back to sleep. That was the plan at least.
Emersyn cried (read screamed) through the whole snot sucking experience. Then when I sat down to rock her........... she threw-up all over me. I yelled for Alex as I moved a crying baby back to her changing table. I took off her jammies and since she felt a little warm, I put her in a onesie while Alex got me a new shirt. Emersyn immediately threw-up again on the changing table and we changed her into yet another onesie.
I sucked more snot out since she was once again congested and sat down to rock her. She closed her eyes and rested for about 2 min before she threw-up again. This time hitting my shirt, my boxers, the rocking chair and the floor. I yelled again for Alex and asked him to change her into onesie #3 while I changed. I decided to sit in the living room (in my sleep-deprived-mind a change in scenery meant less chance of throw-up). I held Emersyn for 20 min while she drifted back to sleep. I figured the worst was over and went to put her back in her crib. The second I layed her down, she coughed and I could see what was going to happen. I flipped her over while picking her up so that she was on her knees leaning on my arm. She continued to throw-up for almost 2 min into her crib. (At least the clean up was very well contained). Shockingly there was nothing on her onesie so I layed her on the changing table while I cleaned off her face, threw her sheets in the hamper and took her into the living room again.
This time after holding her while she fell asleep, I put her into her bouncer. She was not the most comfortable kid as she twisted onto her side all night trying to find a good position but she slept until 6am and thankfully did not throw-up anymore. I don't believe I remember this part of motherhood in the brochure?!?!?!

A look at the last 6 months...
Emersyn turned 6 months old on Friday. My little girl has gotten so big and I couldn't have imagined 6 months ago how much my life would change or how much I would LOVE being a mommy. She is has gone from a tiny baby that cried for hours on end each day with colic to a happy smiling little girl that is sitting up and working on crawling. Here is a look back at the last 6 months in pictures....

Where is the camera when I need it!
We have a rule in our house (that I implemented 2 weeks ago), no babies out of bed before 6:00am. Emersyn may wake up before then on occasion, but she only gets her binky put back in her mouth or I let her play in her crib. I am lucky that she is very good about entertaining herself. This morning about 5:10am as I got out of the shower, I heard her start to cry. I walked into her room and put the binky back in her mouth and covered her back up with her blanket. Then I heard her start talking to herself and moving/kicking around the crib for the next 30 min. She was apparently done playing so she started to cry, I again when into her room and put the binky back in her mouth and told her night night.
I was all done getting ready for work at this point and was in the kitchen making coffee and getting her breakfast ready. It was 6am and I could hear her quietly babbling so I went in to see if she was ready to get up. If I had know what I would find, I would have grabbed the camera……
Emersyn was on her back, had unbuttoned all the buttons on one leg of her jammies (I didn’t even know she knew how to do this), had pulled her foot out and was sucking on her toes lol. Apparently, that sounded like a fun thing to do at 6 on a Friday morning. And as always, I got my huge smile from her when I walked in. Now though- I fear I will walk in tomorrow morning and my girl will be pajama-less.

No shirt, No shoes... time to eat
I have heard of those kids that hate to be messy. That want to stay clean even during dinner time. That don't want food all over them..... my child is NOT that child. So.... we have mandated the no shirt rule at dinner. Since she is teething, Emersyn can't go more than 2 minutes without sucking on her hands/fingers these days and this includes dinner so... I put food in and she takes her hand, wipes it all over and then is covered in whatever flavor the day was (today was sweet potatoes and rice cereal). However, since implenting no shirt dinners the mess that I need to clean up after dinner is almost diminished. Just a wipe of the face and hands and I am done. As you can see from the pictures below, my child loves being naked and thinks that shirtless dinners are the coolest thing ever. (Despite Alex's requests.... the adults in the house keep our shirts ON at dinner.) :-)
Alex took the pics and even though it is stupid... I like the up the nose shot at the end lol
